“Relaxation Retreat” – July 2012

“Managing Stress Better!” Workshop

It’s packed with loads of useful stuff so well worth reading to the end!

“Hitting the Wall”

We’re three weeks into 2012 and I’m sure you guys have either stopped some bad habits or created some new positive ones, so a big well done to those of you that have!

However research shows that a new habit takes anywhere between 21 and 28 days to become programmed in to your unconscious mind (NB Hypnosis speeds this process up), and what I have discovered personally and from my clients is that this week is crucial to up your game!

Why?

Well the brain has a protection mechanism to stop you from taking on any old habits, so between weeks three and four it tests you with negative dialogue and feelings to see if you really want this new behaviour to be taken on permanently.

How can I overcome this?

Firstly prepare yourself for the next 7 – 10 days by getting more sleep and easing back on your life schedule a bit so you have more room for manoeuvre if life throws you a curve ball.

Whenever you hear that critical voice telling you to give up on your goal, say firmly in your mind “STOP!”, then take a nice deep breath and distract yourself by doing something different.

Remember once these 10 days are over things will get easier.

If you haven’t set your goals yet or are not happy with the effort you made I’m running a “Goal Setting” Workshop at the next Personal Development Group, check it out below! (NB If you prefer to work with me one to one, email or call me to secure your sessions.)

Personal Development Group – “Goal Setting” 10am – 12pm 4th February 2012

This year I’ve looked hard at how I can make things better for you based on your feedback and I’ve come up with a few changes.

Firstly I’ve changed the time to the morning so that you guys can leave the group taking all of the positive messages into the rest of your day; secondly I’ve changed the venue as the previous venue doesn’t open at this time and lastly we’ve changed it to the first Saturday in the month rather than the last. I’d like your feedback as always.

The “Goal Setting” workshop will be run by myself where we look at the things we leant from last year, what we liked we want to continue and those things we want to learn and grow from. Bring a pen and paper as we’ll be doing some exercises where you have to really look at yourself so you can not only aim for the goals you really want, but know the areas you need to work on in order to overcome potential challenges…once again it’s only £5, please email me to let me know you’re attending at info@wsoh.co.uk.

Date, Time and Venue – Saturday 4th February 2012, 10am – 12pm at “Serene Body & Mind” 93 Spon End, Coventry, CV1 3HF. The venue has a free car park on the side of the building where the entrance is.

As you know I’ve started the year with massive enthusiasm so I hope you can join me and boost your motivation so you have the best year yet!

“Relaxation Retreat” – July 2012

I am currently in talks with a number of professionals (2 have confirmed already) who will assist me in making your stay in France the best ever. As soon as I have more information I will let you guys know, remember to register your interest via email if relaxing, losing weight and/or gaining confidence in a beautiful place in France is something you’re interested in?

In this newsletter:

•	“Changing Gears”
•	“Managing Stress Better!” Workshop

It’s packed with loads of useful stuff so well worth reading to the end!

“Changing Gears”

At this time of year most people hit the reset button and start all over again, you’ll hear people say “New Year, new start!”, “At least that year’s over!”, or “I can start with a clean slate now!” etc.

The problem with this thinking is that they are generalising that the whole year was bad, when reality is that is how they are remembering it, and so therefore, it is for them.

Even though I had a very challenging finish to my year which impacted on my Christmas and New Year, I still rate it as one of my best years yet.

The reason it was challenging was because I had decided to take more risks and step out of my comfort zone in 2011, to the point where in some areas of my life I felt a lot of fear and uncertainty, but it taught me so many valuable things about myself that I carry into 2012.

I decided to work more, trust more, give more, love more and risk more in order to grow as a person, and yes some things went wrong and I got hurt and so did others.

But the gold I took from these experiences was to reflect on why these things had not given me the outcome I wanted, to take responsibility for them and establish how I could change my decision making and behaviours in order to get closer to the outcomes I want.

The negative outcomes have not taken away all of the great things I experienced in 2011 or tainted them in any way (though at the time it may have seemed like that), they have merely offered me experience and the opportunity to examine how I could have thought or behaved differently.

I have not gone back to the start line again; I have enjoyed the good weather, endured the bad weather and changed gears accordingly, but never back down to first gear or back to the start of the race.

And my gearbox grows extra gears every time I put it under this pressure and so does yours!

Two great things you can do at this time of year to start with a bang are; firstly write down all your successes (anything that you were proud of or made you happy) in a “Success Journal”, number them from one and date them. Secondly with your successes in mind, think of the things that you have learnt from these successes and the think of the things you want to achieve next and write down a list of goals for the next twelve months.

Each night look at your goals so you start programming your unconscious mind to help you achieve them and each morning read your “Success Journal” to boost your motivation for the day!

You’ll be surprised how these two simple things accelerate your success massively!

Don’t put it off, do it now, change gear!

If you struggle to do these things on your own and want to work with me one to one on goal setting, stopping smoking, losing weight or anything else, please email me or give me a call and we’ll book in some sessions to help you get the life you want!

I also want to reassure you guys, I know I said I was thinking of working abroad in January, but I have decided that I want to stay here and focus on helping more people make changes in their lives and businesses. I am doing more and more business coaching and training (mostly because of my experience in management and managing projects at BT) and getting great results so I will be launching a specific website for these services too shortly. Below is a course I have been running for some time for businesses, schools and clubs that you may like to take a look at?

It’s packed with loads of useful stuff so well worth reading to the end!

“How Our Brains Develop”

Recently I’ve noticed a trend in people who are experiencing negative emotions…they are predominantly utilizing child ego-state behaviours. In order to explain this more fully I think it will be helpful to explain how our brains develop when we are children and to cross reference this with certain psychological theories.

When a baby is first born its experience of the world for the first couple of years is that solely of its own existence, it has no idea that its behaviour has any effect on anyone else.

For all you parents out there you may recollect your young children happily drawing on the wallpaper with felt-tip pens, or maybe emptying tins or jars of food onto the floor with absolutely no idea of what they are doing is wrong! LOL.

This ego-state is the first to develop and its primary responsibility is survival and fun, avoiding pain and pursuing pleasure. Freud called this the Id, in Transactional Analysis it is known as the Natural Child ego-state and in NLP Perceptual Positions it can be considered as Position “A”…more on this later.

At some point the child learns that its behaviour can affect the feelings of others i.e. hitting another child or pinching a toy from them makes the other child cry, it develops an understanding and consequently empathy for the feelings of others. Some Psychologists believe that murderers and sadists have not developed this behaviour at all; my own philosophy is that it is very underdeveloped because of the way the child was treated and the poor references it had from parental figures and this behaviour can be changed unless there is actual physical damage to the architecture of the brain. This is what Freud would have loosely referred to as the Super-Ego, in Transactional Analysis it can be the Nurturing Parent or Adapted Child ego-states (dependant on whether the individual is self aware or told off) and in NLP, position “B”.

Then the final piece of the jigsaw is when the child realises that if it hits another child, not only will that child cry but another person who witnesses the event (maybe one of the children’s parents) can become sad or angry, even though they have not been physically touched. This would fit into what Freud called the Ego state, in Transactional Analysis the Adult ego-state and in NLP Perceptual Position “C”.

So to summarise using NLP terms and some simple language; position “A” is your experience as it is felt, in this position we have strong feelings (positive and negative) but lack the ability to understand the feelings of how our actions or behaviour affects people we are interacting with or that may be observing our behaviour. Position “B” is where we put ourselves in the shoes of another to experience what things are like from their side of the fence. Position “C” is where we observe ourselves (Position “A”) interacting with the other person (Position “B”) from an onlookers perspective (Position “C”).

So whenever you feel stuck in your life or have come to an impasse with another person get three chairs and put them in a triangle and have two facing each other (the one on the left labelled “A” and on the right “B”) with the third chair in the middle facing the other two (labelled “C”) and get a pen and paper.

Firstly sit in the first chair “A” and be you in the situation you’re struggling with and write down all of your feelings. Secondly, imagine leaving “You” in the chair as you sit in chair “B” and write down how the other person feels with regard to you (or how the situation seems from outside of you). Then lastly imagine leaving the person or situation in chair “B” and sit in chair “C” as the impartial observer and notice what observations and new understandings you gleen from this position.

Often people are stuck in the child position “A” when they are behaving in ways that make them feel negative emotions, give it a try!

I’ll actually be demonstrating this at the Personal Development Group (below) if you want to come along and see it being demonstrated and have a go yourself, whilst learning loads of other cool stuff! Email me to let me know you’re coming!

Personal Development Group – “How to be Happy!”

It’s on Saturday 29th October 2011 between 3pm and 5pm I will be presenting a “How to be Happy!” workshop where we’ll discuss what happiness is, how we can create more of it in our lives and how we can challenge unhappy thoughts.

I’d appreciate it if you’d let those of your friends (that want to get more out of life) know about this event as I want to widen the net to reach out and help as many people as I can!

NB Critical and negative people (Persecutors and Victims) need not apply as this group is all about supporting and helping each other lead happier, healthier more successful lives!

Once again it will be held at the Jaguar Cars Sports & Social Club, (XJS Suite), Browns Lane, Allesley, Coventry CV5 9DR only £5 entry! All welcome from novice all the way up to seasoned professional, drop us an email to let us know you’re attending at info@wsoh.co.uk

4 Week Weight Loss and Motivation Boot Camp (only 10 spaces)

I’ve decided to start training now for Christmas so I can pretty much eat and drink what I want over the festive season, without feeling guilty and having to have a crazy exercise plan in January.

So I want to offer you the same opportunity and I’m really excited because I’ve put together a 4 week Weight Loss and Motivation Boot Camp where you will be exercising both your mind and body.

The sessions will begin by looking at the things that are holding you back and then you will experience my Boxercise Class that was the most popular fitness class when I worked inFrance. I also have the best International Personal Trainer I have met coming in to run two of the exercise classes who specialises in core stability exercises, great for those who want a trim tummy!

The classes will be run on 2 consecutive Saturdays a week break then a further 2 consecutive Saturdays from 10am to 11.30am and priced at £97 per person or £180 for two people.

There are only 10 spaces and before I set up the webpage and links I need to see who would be interested as I have overheads to be covered for the place I want to use.

So if you are really serious and ready to commit to these dates – 5th, 12th and 26th November and 3rd December, email me ASAP!

Save £200 off one to one Weight Loss Programme (only 5 spaces)

For one week or until all 5 spaces have gone I’m reducing my Weight Loss Programme from £497 to £297 (saving £200!) for the first 5 people to email me to ndhypnotherapy@gmail.com.

My reason for doing this is that I’m thinking of working abroad again in January so wanted to make sure I’m available to help you lose the weight before Christmas, so that you can get into “That” outfit that you want to look good in this festive season!

If you want to be one of the lucky 5 email now, (no phone calls or texts). It will be determined on the time it was received in my Inbox and you must pay on your first session and be able to start over the next 10 days, so get typing!

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

It’s packed with loads of useful stuff so well worth reading to the end!

“Where Should We Invest Our Energy?”

I was talking a friend of mine in the gym the other day about helping people, as we both like to help people overcome difficulties and get more out of their lives.

He was describing to me some challenges he faced with certain types of people who despite his best efforts, didn’t seem to want to change. He asked if I had any advice on the subject and was pretty shocked with my reply…

“Ignore them!” I said.

I then went on to explain that there are some people in life (Victims) who thrive on the never ending attention of empathetic people who want to improve the lives of others (Rescuers).

The problem here is that if the “Victim” takes the advice of their chosen “Rescuer” this abundance of attention would dry up and they’d have to find a way of nurturing themselves and stop this dependant relationship.

So what predominantly happens is the Victim turns into the “Persecutor” by blaming their Rescuer for meddling in their life, or they develop an illness or injury that will garner further attention.

The Rescuer now becomes the Victim and may even attract their “own” Rescuer to perpetuate their own cycle of this behaviour but from the other perspective.

The way to break this behaviour (if you are any of the three roles Rescuer, Victim or Persecutor) is to first recognise the role you are playing and what are your “Pay Offs” for playing this game?

Rescuers are often playing their game as they cannot handle being rejected by people so will often use their empathetic behaviour to gain acceptance from people rather than being themselves.

Sometimes Rescuers also play the same game by seeking attention from other Rescuers when they’ve been “Victimised” by someone they were trying to help.

Here are two videos I recorded a couple of years ago that explain “The Drama Triangle” in more detail, the second gives further reading and advice on how to get out of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUOCq_TJm2w

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1bX8UziCi8

My philosophy on behaviour is simple…

”Don’t Feed the Animals!”

By this I mean – Ignore Bad Behaviour, Reward Good!

Whatever you feed and nurture (with positive OR negative attention) grows stronger and by ignoring bad behaviour you allow that person the choice to choose a better strategy for their life and to take responsibility for their actions and reactions.

Life is about choices and consequences…if you don’t like the consequences, maybe you could make a different choice next time?

Make sure you allow yourself more than two choices in every situation as two choices is aptly named “Sucker’s Choice” as it often involves both choices not being right for you.

The more choices you have, the more flexibility you have and this allows you to feel more relaxed, which will ultimately lead to you being happier…which brings me nicely on to next months PD Group…

Personal Development Group – “How to be Happy!”

* “I’m right! No you’re not!”
* Personal Development Group – “Confidence Building”
* Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma
It’s packed with loads of useful stuff (including two free Reports!) so well worth reading to the end!

“I’m right! No you’re not!”

Today’s newsletter is about conflict, conflict with others and also more importantly within ourselves.

Now I’m no stranger in life to conflict and I am guilty of occasionally seeking it out, because for me it brings a resolution to a problem. Not always the one I want long term so I’ve changed the way I’ve perceived and dealt with this, in order to allow me greater flexibility in my life and utilise my time more effectively.

Initially I used to believe that what I thought was right and that the person I was in debate with was wrong, but I’ve realised that this is simply not true. More often than not both sides are right.

How can two sides be right?

Our views, beliefs and values are driven by our emotional experiences in life and those of the people who influence in our early formative years.

Initially we take on the views, values and beliefs of our parents or guardians until we challenge them and form different ones, but we can only do this if we are open to the possibility that with greater knowledge comes greater understanding.

As a therapist and coach, if a client tells me water scares them (I love water), then that is their reality and only if they want to change this, will I help them do this by challenging their beliefs with a number of tools.

So the next time someone says “I think you’re being unfair!” instead of saying something like “Oh don’t be so stupid/daft/ridiculous!” (which is surprisingly common), acknowledge the way they feel by paraphrasing their words back to them in a non- patronising and empathetic way, such as “I accept you think I’m being unfair…AND…(your opinion)”.

Notice I use the word “AND” instead of “BUT”!

If you use the word but you negate all of the sentiment you started the sentence with and will leave the person feeling unheard or misunderstood.

Now let’s take this a step further and use this with ourselves as I’m a big fan of acknowledging our weaknesses as this helps us grow stronger.

Whenever you hear that part of you that says “I’m nervous/scared/worried”, acknowledge it and ask it to help, so you could say “I accept you are nervous/scared/worried…AND I want you to know that we’ve done this before, we’ll be fine.”

You’ll notice the word I use here is “We” because our personality is represented as the sum of the different parts, if this seems a bit whacky to you just use the word “I”.

If you want to come and practise some of these techniques and learn how to build your own inner confidence pop down to our Personal Development Group this Saturday details below.

“Aaargh…Stress!”

As always this newsletter is honest and topical, I will be sharing with you once again my personal experiences in the hope that I can help you guys with my real world experiences and learning.

I’ll be honest, since returning from France things have been manic; new clients, marketing, organising workshops, Hypnosis and Mind Magic shows, friends and family to hook up with etc. And I’ve loved almost every minute because I love what I do…I say “almost” because I made a mistake whilst inFrance.

I asked the advice of a very wealthy individual how I could expand my business more quickly and took their advice on face value because they were doing very well.

The advice basically consisted of “Backward Engineering” which in a nutshell means offering products and services for sale with them not being created or fully developed. As I write this I struggle to understand how I took this advice as it conflicts with one of my core values which is Honesty.

Anyway I decided to start with this idea by offering 3 different free Reports on three of my websites before writing them. Once people ordered the Reports it was supposed to create the inertia and motivation required to complete this work…

…But it didn’t.

In fact it did the opposite; it became a weight around my neck that I felt little or no motivation to complete.

Another reason was that I had planned to do a certain amount of work and always leave myself a buffer, so if any urgent work comes in I am able to deal with it. However, this buffer had been taken up with a few unexpected household problems two of which were; my boiler breaking down and a pipe leaking through my kitchen ceiling.

Aaargh…Stress!

Now the problem is with any negative emotion is that the longer you leave it the more speed it gathers and the harder it is to stop. The metaphor I use is a train leaving a station; it takes a while for it to get going but once it’s up to full speed it takes a long time to stop.

My metaphorical train had well and truly left “Chilledville” Station and was nearing “Noooo!” City via “Aaargh…Stress!” Village. LOL

I had to use some crisis management techniques (my poor heavy bag) and juggle things in my diary to complete the things I had to do, coupled with a lot of rest after working long days to get everything done. It was a close run thing which took some of the enjoyment out of what I do, but I did it and then I reflected back on the situation to see what I could’ve done better.

One thing I noticed was that the person I took the advice from was unhappy with their life and they were in a business that caused them stress most days.

Here are some tips you may find helpful:

If you want to ask someone for advice make sure they have a track record for helping people in this area, or at least are successful and happy in this area in their own life.

Always leave a buffer zone in your life for emergencies no matter how much fun you are having. Once you are exhausted your productivity will diminish and mean you are expending more energy to get simple tasks done which perpetuates this cycle.

Communicate clearly that you need some space. For me my communication had not been clear enough that I had too much on, as friends and family ignored me when I told them that I was stressed and continued to call and demand emotional and physical resources from me.

Prioritise. Find out the things that are most important by role playing in your mind what will happen if you don’t do them, this will give you an idea if the are “nice to do” (Facebook, friends emails) or “need to do” (Pay bills, finish work deadlines).

Ask for help. Before your resources are depleted, ask for help (firstly from your entourage) and communicate this clearly to a number of people, remember to reward them (a thank you or a small gift) to encourage this behaviour for the future.

Take a break every 48 minutes and relax and/or have some fun for 12minutes every hour whilst working, your mind works at it’s most efficient around these times.

Learn from every situation. Ask yourself what you could have done better and as a result of this, what you are going to commit to doing differently. I write the things I learn in my journal and it’s helped me be clear who are important members in my entourage and who I’ve now had to remove.

I hope this has been helpful, if you want to learn more tips on dealing with stress then please come to this Saturday’s Personal Development Group details below:

Personal Development Group – “Stress Management”

Sports Performance Coaching – Free Report

Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma

It’s packed with loads of useful stuff so well worth reading to the end!

“Keeping Your Head”

It’s been an absolutely crazy week so far here in theUK, mindless rioting, violence and looting inLondon,Birmingham,Manchesterand other major cities.

Watching (or even experiencing) these awful chaotic and often disturbing events has caused people to feel a whole range of emotions; fear, anxiety, frustration, anger, sadness, depression, despair, loss and grief.

From people I’ve spoken to in the bank, supermarket, clients, friends and what I’ve observed on social networking sites; it seems to have emotionally affected everyone in some way.

At times like these we go through a process of thinking that is designed to help and protect us: Why are they doing it? Why didn’t the Police intervene more quickly? How could we allow this to happen? What would I do if I were threatened or attacked? Why aren’t they being punished more harshly?

We will also project statements to ourselves and others to appease the way we feel, usually statements of anger, frustration or understanding towards the looters, Police or Government.

Often this is a waste of energy because we have very little control over this, so my philosophy is to influence those things that are within your control and this will pay massive dividends to your long term health and happiness.

Giving negative energy to those things you cannot control is like sitting in your car revving the engine as hard as you can without putting it into gear…it literally won’t get you anywhere!

I believe despite technology we have gone backwards in our emotional evolution.

We seem to live in a time similar to that of the Gladiators when the baying crowd would be entertained by people fighting for a violent victory and the crowd would take sides by either cheering or booing the winner.

The only difference is that it is being played out in the News, programmes like Jeremy Kyle and Eastenders or social media like Facebook; we appear to now be merely spectators in our own lives…

…except of course those of us who are interacting with other human beings in order to work together to create greater things rather than leave a trail of destruction.

So in light of these recent events I’ve decided to make the topic of the next Personal Development group “Stress Management”, as we’re probably in a time where we need to learn these skills most.

But for now to help you I’ve copied a poem that gives me inspiration at times like these called “If” by Rudyard Kipling, I hope you enjoy it too!

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream and not make dreams your master;
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

Achieve Your Dreams

Personal Development Group

Sports Performance Coaching – 50% discount ends midnight tomorrow!

A new career opportunity

It’s packed with loads of useful stuff so well worth reading to the end!

Achieve Your Dreams

The last Personal Development Group was well attended and we had a nice mix of people all wanting to get more out of their lives, meet like-minded people and learn some cool stuff.

I ran a 2hr goal setting session, where we looked at what we wanted, what we would need to overcome and how we could get it. This is an area I particularly love because I really enjoy seeing other people achieving things they thought were impossible.

So I’ve decided to offer a small group of people the chance to work with me personal over a period of 3 weeks in order to kick start their year and to smash through some of those things that are blocking or preventing them from achieving their dreams.

So here’s the deal…

On Saturday 13th August between 9am and 12pm we’ll meet face to face for some coaching to set out where you want to go and I’ll work with you as a group and individually to make sure when you leave you’re really fired up to take action.

Then over the next 3 weeks you’ll be given tasks and be held accountable by having telephone coaching and letting me know your progress and problems via email.

Then on Saturday 3rd September between 9am and 12pm we review your progress and work once again on helping you overcome the things you learned during that period and then as they say in Boxing “Go again!”

I only want to work with those of you that want to make changes and take things to another level, it will be open, honest and maybe at times difficult, but the payoffs will be massive for you.

Just to let you know that because my profile is growing, these events will consequently get more expensive as time goes on, so I it may be a good idea to take advantage now?

If you want to book this it is £97 per person or £180 for a couple/two friends and you need to commit to this by emailing me before Friday 10pm to let me know that you want to secure your place/s for this programme.

NB: I will take your email as acceptance of an agreement to attend and monies will be payable on the day by cash or cheque, attendees of the last PD Group will also receive the discount as discussed last Saturday.

Personal Development Group

It’s on Saturday 27th August 2011 between 3pm and 5pm I am in the process of securing a speaker, keep the date in your diary and I’ll confirm the speaker and the topic in the next newsletter!

Sports Performance Coaching Diploma – 50% discounts ends midnight tomorrow!

Just a reminder for those of you who wanted to study this Diploma (renamed as I’ll be explaining the superiority of Performance over Psychology as I’ve found my notes from Warwick University) that the 50% discount ends tomorrow at midnight, so if you want to learn all of the secret tips, tools and techniques you need to act fast to secure your place now! www.wsoh.co.uk/sportsperformancediploma

“Walking the Walk”

Personal Development Group – “Mid Year Goal Setting”

A New Career Opportunity – New Dates

“Walking the Walk”

Going to work inFrancewas a great decision and has given me lots of inspiration, motivation and drive to continue developing myself, my clients and my business.

But it wasn’t without nervousness or fear, more on that in a moment…

I was reading a newsletter today from another colleague who was saying how they could help people overcome challenges and make their lives better etc., but in an earlier newsletter they described how they shied away from the very things that they were helping their clients with because of their own fears?

Now I’m not one to criticize anyone with fears or anxieties as I am probably one of the most fearful people out there, but I have also developed a great deal of courage which helps me stare down my fears and face them head on.

This got me thinking…

If you cannot do what you’re asking your clients to do, then unconsciously you will be communicating this through your verbal communication (tone, delivery, choice of words etc.) and your body language…and this is partly the reason friends and family often give you bad advice like “There’s plenty more fish in the sea!” (relationship break up), “Just pull yourself together” (anxiety), “Get over it!” (depression) etc. because if they were faced with the same set of circumstances they wouldn’t have the tools to change them.

Now this is why I am walking the walk because I want to know what it feels like to be stuck in lots of different situations and then come through it. I’ve not made my life easy because of this but I’ve certainly made it a hell of a lot more rewarding on many levels.

So back toFrance…

Lots of people urged me to be careful (or not to go) as it could be a scam of some sort, which left me feeling doubtful and drained a lot of my energy, but I knew I had to go even if it was only to learn from a bad experience.

So I set off, but when I reachedLondonsomething strange happened…

I had an overwhelming desire to turn around and come back and my mind was giving me compelling arguments for returning home too…it actually made me feel sick.

I had to override these with positive self talk, changing my posture and breathing.

But this is often called the “Tipping Point” the worst part of any journey, real or metaphorical, and once you get through this, things predominantly get easier.

But beware! It can return again, sometimes in waves as it did for me as once I got to France I found my mobile phone wouldn’t work so I was relying on the contract offer and phone conversations being honest, but I pressed on.

Then I had another wave of anxiety and doubt once I got to the area where my “Sat Nav” told me the chateau was supposed to be, which was on top of a hill in the middle of nowhere where there was a run down farm.

“Oh no…I’ve been stitched up here, this is nothing like the photo!” I thought to myself as I got that sinking feeling again.

Then I began laughing and thinking about telling the story when I got home and that’s where my frame of reference suddenly shifted. I saw the exercise an adventure and whatever happened I’d see the funny side, so I got out of my car and went to find the owner.

I managed to establish that my “Sat Nav” had taken me to the wrong location and the place I was headed for, did exist, and was exactly the same as it looked in the photo and I had an overwhelming feeling of happiness and satisfaction.

One thing I learnt is that the feelings you get at the end of the journey (real or metaphorical) always outweigh the negative ones along the way, provided you’ve researched the opportunity to ensure it’s what you really want.

Sometimes you’ve just go to do things to find out if you like them.

Life is all about choices and consequences and being personally responsible for both.
